How to Make a Valentine’s Day Card in Under 5 Minutes

Simple Handmade Valentine’s Day Craft for Kids

Nothing says love and care like a handmade gift and there’s no better time to do so than Valentine’s Day! Hand-making your cards this year will give you the freedom to personalize each and every one and add that little touch that says just how much you care.

With just a little extra time and effort, what you make will be leagues ahead of what you can pick up at the store - better yet, you’ll save money too! So take an afternoon and spend some quality time crafting with your loved ones as you follow along our simple Valentine’s Day card guide.

This simple project is easy enough for kiddos of all ages to do and the tools we recommend are just as flexible. You can use:

Simple Valentine's Day Card [Step by Step Guide]

Step 1: Trace a heart onto a sheet of construction paper or cardstock.

*Tip: Use a pencil with a light hand so it’s easy to erase any of your guidelines off of your final project.

 

Step 2: Use a craft knife to cut along your guidelines.

*Feel free to use a pair of craft scissors if you’re working on this project with any little ones!

 

Step 3: Fold your heart in half and crease.

Step 4: Using a ruler, draw a 1” line towards the top of your heart, this will be your guide line for your candy slot.

Step 5: Using a tool like the K31 Dual Blade Cutter, follow your guideline and make a strip in the middle of the heart.

*If you’re only using a craft knife or scissors, make sure to create two lines! Fold the heart in half and cut through both halves of the paper to ensure even lines.

 

Step 6: Push the newly created strip forward, this open space is where your Valentine’s Day candy will sit.

Step 7: Write a personalized message onto the Valentine’s Day Card.

Step 8: Slide your candy into the candy slot; make sure the slot isn’t too wide so the candy can’t slide all the way out!
