DIY Patriotic Wreath for the 4th of July

DIY Patriotic Wreath for the 4th of July

If you’re planning a friends and family gathering in the back yard to watch the local fireworks, Fourth of July is a perfect time to dress up your home with the red, white and blue! One of the best and simplest ways to add patriotic colors to your home is with a door wreath made up of the classic star motif.

For this project you’ll need to gather a few supplies:

  • Craft felt in red, white and blue colors
  • Craft wire
  • Cutting mat
  • Scissors
  • Fabric or hot glue
  • Pliers with a with a wire cutter
  • Self closing tweezers (optional) - this is a helpful tool to have around when gluing

Step One:

Start by cutting out stars from your felt material. We’re cutting two sizes for an added layer of visual interest. In our supply list we mentioned scissors for cutting, but you can also use a craft knife especially on felt that is more rigid.

Our wreath is going to be 12” in diameter, so we’ll need a lot of stars - so we’re using our Comfort Grip Scissors to cut them - this scissor is easier on the hands during longer projects.

Step Two:

Cut short pieces of wire and glue the felt stars to the end of each one. Use a wire cutter to cut the wire.

Step Three:

Create a round frame from the wire for the base of your wreath. Use wire cutters to cut the wire and the plier tips to connect the ends together.

Step Four:

One by one, attach the stars to the main wreath circle. Wrap the ends of the wire several times so they’re secure. Use pliers to clamp in place and add glue if needed.

Hang up and enjoy the festivities!
